Once in a while, for various reasons, I put myself on social media lockdown. This time it was the preponderance of promos and spoilers for 11.01, not into that and it got a bit impossible to avoid. That, and life got nutty, but here I am!

Family
My mother-in-law stopped in town week before last, a quick pause on her road trip. Nice dinner, sit and visit. Then the next day she crashed her car a couple of hours out of the city. Thankfully, thankfully, she wasn't hurt badly. Broken wrist. But mostly ticked that she messed up her vacation. Tough old Southern lady, through and through. Mr. Lament was a hero, dealing with police and doctors and the towing company. Got her packed up and handed off to his brother for follow-up.

My in-laws are adorable, so normal and functional. Wonderfully weird. :D

Friends
Went to a Pride party this weekend at the Georgia Aquarium. Got to see the famous whale shark and a freaking enormous manta ray. Not even kidding, I've been on speedboats smaller than that sucker. A dolphin show, which made me oddly sad. Powerful wild things cooped up and dancing for the monkeys.

Lots of the critters were sleeping. And lemme tell you, sleeping otters? All in a dogpile, cute and snuggly, death by adorable. On the other hand, giant schools of fish just hovering, immobile, in darkened tanks. That's death by creepy.

And it was so, so crowded, which I'm not very good with. Drinks were 8 flippin dollars too. Shoulda brought a flask, or a spiked Diet Coke. Shhh... don't tell my secret! ;)

But I'm looking forward to another trip up north. Got an alumni thing in November and my bestest bestie just decided to go. Haven't seen him in over a year, and it's been a rough year for us both. Much whiskey and outdated music to come. Skeevy karaoke bar I've patronized since I turned 21. Tina Turner and Nina Simone, I think. Unless I get brave/drunk enough to try White Rabbit. It's an aspirational number. Heh.

Oh! And [livejournal.com profile] crowroad3 sent me photos of Joshua trees (which play a role in the last fic I posted). I may have teared up a little. And if I can remember how Photoshop works, I'm gonna turn one into a banner for said story. (Power of Soul, if you were wondering.)

Writing
Splutter, splutter, stall. I started on a Bela/Crowley concept for a Tumblr Halloween challenge. And I dig the concept, it's just not slashing well. Once I got in Bela's headspace I found her generally unimpressed with the King. Maybe I'll push through, write some dutiful, awkward sex. Won't be steamy porn but it might make an interesting story anyway.

And I'm freaking out about my Christmas exchange!

Then there's NaNo coming up. Haven't decided if I want to try it again. And if I do, should I try it in public? Or hunker down like a hermit the way I did last year? Kind of terrifying either way.

What are y'all up to? Got NaNo plans? How's life/family/friends/writing treating you?

Welcome back! Happy to see you 'round these parts again. :D And I love the manta ray (and whale shark, of course) at the Georgia Aquarium! Though goodness, that dolphin show. I don't even know, really. XD My home aquarium is the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and it being older and therefore patronized by many wealthy private donors, I wasn't prepared for the commercialism of the Georgia Aquarium--what with the dolpin show and Deepo the Home Depot clownfish mascot. I really liked the riparian exhibit, though.

And I'm all for dutiful, awkward sex. \O/

Oh god, I'm glad tht your mother-in-law didn't get seriously injured. Though a broken wrist hurts enough.

Heh, I'm 160 words into my slave exchange fic. My muse grabbed the plot twist and ran away with it; she's cackling madly because it's so not what the OP meant. *sighs* But you're powerless against this muse. *SIGHS*
